Welcome to the Edward J. Peterson Air and Space Museum, Colorado's oldest aviation museum! Our museum preserves and portrays the rich aviation and space history of Colorado Springs and Peterson Air Force Base. Our museum is located on the site of Colorado Springs’ first municipal airfield. The original airfield structures, built between 1928 and 1941, still remain; three of which anchor our Museum complex. The museum also includes an airpark with 13 aircraft on static display and a Medal of Honor memorial. The museum is named after 1st Lieutenant Edward J. Peterson, a World War II Army Air Forces pilot and native son of Colorado who died in an crash in August 1942. The air base, which formed in April 1942, was renamed in his honor in Dec of the same year. We showcase our rich civil aviation and military history, with significant highlights from Peterson Air Force Base, Air Force Space Command, North American Aerospace Defense Command, and our military Heritage. From our barnstormer beginnings in the Roaring Twenties, through the daring exploits of our World War II pilots and into the modern space era, our exhibits are sure to capture your attention. The museum is located within Peterson Air Force Base. Access to non-military personnel is available by appointment. Directions for scheduling an appointment is available at our website below.
