Kennesaw Mountain

Kennesaw Mountain rises above the Atlanta suburbs as a terrain feature that dictated tactics long before modern development surrounded it. During the 1864 Atlanta Campaign, its slopes and ridgelines became the focus of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, where Union forces under William T. Sherman tested a fortified Confederate line commanded by Joseph E. Johnston in a costly frontal assault.
