Battle of Palmito Ranch
The Battle of Palmito Ranch is considered to be the final battle of the American Civil War. Because of this, it could be argued that one of the casualties, Private John J. Williams of the 34th Indiana Infantry Regiment was the last man killed in the Civil War. The battlefield currently exists much as it did in 1865. It sits on a remote undeveloped area within the Palmito Ranch National Historic Landmark. According to the American Battlefield Trust there is limited interpretation there except for a marker.
