Iowa Light Artillery
The Iowa Light Artillery played an integral role during the civil war. Today, the unit is still alive and active through reenactment units around the midwest who specialize in recreating civil war battles. The unit is incredibly detailed and pays attention to precisely replicating uniforms, equipment, and weaponry from the civil war era. When they aren't out on the battlefield, members of these reenactment groups can be frequently found engaging in public educational events such as field days and public celebrations where they put on civil war-era demonstrations for excited crowds. Through these events, the participants pay their respects and remind us all of the battles waged for freedom so many years ago. It’s a remarkable demonstration that educates our communities on the civil war era and gives recognition to those who fought on behalf of American Independence.
