American Huey 369 Museum
Peru, Indiana
Since 2004 the American Huey 369 Organization has been devoting itself to the preservation of various Vietnam and after Huey Helicopters. The American Huey 369 Museum is a living history museum flying since 2007. The organization flies and maintains 4 Vietnam combat veteran Huey Helicopters that current members get the opportunity to fly in. For ten years now, the membership has maintained a temporary museum on the Grissom Aeroplex adjacent to the Grissom Air Reserve Base. For the past 5 years, the museum has been actively fundraising to build the National American Huey History Museum (NAHHM) that will be built on 34 acres directly east of Grissom. The organization was founded 16 years ago and are a registered Not for Profit 501c3 educational charitable museum that boasts 20,000 members and growing. The current aircraft inventory is up to 14 Vietnam veteran aircraft with 12 Hueys, 1 Cobra, and 1 OH-6 Loach. The temporary museum is free but donations are definitely welcome. With your visit you can see the aircraft as well as other carefully put together displays. The museum is seasonal and visitors should be sure to review the museums website prior to visiting. Freeman Army Airfield Museum
Seymour, Indiana
Our museum preserves, protects and displays artifacts from the WWII era, covering the time period 1942 through 1946. Freeman Army Airfield performed two distinct functions during those years; training bomber pilots for the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and 1944, and acting as the Foreign Aircraft Evaluation Center in 1945 and 1946.
We have two buildings, about 3000 square feet each, located across the street from the terminal building at Freeman Municipal Airport in Seymour, Indiana. Both buildings are wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant. Admission and parking are free; donations accepted. There are a wide range of exhibits, which include firearms and edged weapons, a Link Trainer (WWII flight simulator), a modern electronic simulator that guests can “fly”, and the original base fire truck, in roadworthy condition. While we don’t have any whole airplanes, we do have numerous aircraft engines and propellers from WWII, and many parts, large and small, from enemy aircraft that were here right after the war ended.
We welcome groups and other organizations. Our media room seats 28, and there is a conference area for 10 people. Have your meeting, in conjunction with a museum tour, at our facility. A full tour takes about 1.5 hours. We are open every Saturday from 10AM until 1PM; other times by appointment. Call 812-271-1821 for more information, or visit our website.
