Our museum preserves, protects and displays artifacts from the WWII era, covering the time period 1942 through 1946. Freeman Army Airfield performed two distinct functions during those years; training bomber pilots for the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and 1944, and acting as the Foreign Aircraft Evaluation Center in 1945 and 1946. We have two buildings, about 3000 square feet each, located across the street from the terminal building at Freeman Municipal Airport in Seymour, Indiana. Both buildings are wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant. Admission and parking are free; donations accepted. There are a wide range of exhibits, which include firearms and edged weapons, a Link Trainer (WWII flight simulator), a modern electronic simulator that guests can “fly”, and the original base fire truck, in roadworthy condition. While we don’t have any whole airplanes, we do have numerous aircraft engines and propellers from WWII, and many parts, large and small, from enemy aircraft that were here right after the war ended. We welcome groups and other organizations. Our media room seats 28, and there is a conference area for 10 people. Have your meeting, in conjunction with a museum tour, at our facility. A full tour takes about 1.5 hours. We are open every Saturday from 10AM until 1PM; other times by appointment. Call 812-271-1821 for more information, or visit our website. USS LST-325

The USS LST 325 is the last fully operational WWII Landing Ship, Tank in the United States. LSTs were the largest landing craft built during World War II; their design allowed them to deliver heavy vehicles and equipment directly onto a beach as part of an amphibious invasion. During World War II, the USS LST 325 took part in invasions of Sicily, Italy, and France, carrying more than 3,000 vehicles and 11,000 men into continental Europe. LSTs proved so useful that some WWII built ships continued to see use through the Korean and Vietnam Wars. LST-325 now serves as a museum and memorial dedicated to these unique ships, their brave crews, and the shipyards which built them. For roughly 11 months out of each year, the LST 325 can be visited and toured at her home port of Evansville, Indiana. Because LST 325 remains a fully operational ship, all tours are guided per Coast Guard regulation. Tours begin at the top of each hour and last approximately 45-60 minutes. Each year the ship cruises the inland rivers to visit other cities and communities. Please see the Memorial’s website for hours and call ahead in September and October to verify that ship is in Evansville. (Description provided courtesy of USS LST Memorial, Inc.)
